It's been a lovely summer and the horses have enjoyed some well deserved downtime before getting back into the swing of things. They're fresh, happy and ready to go again, and I don't think any of us can wait for the new season to get underway. We were incredibly lucky with the weather for our Owners' Day at the end of July. The sun shone and it was fantastic to see so many of you there. Days like that are what syndicate ownership is all about. Catching up with familiar faces, talking horses and sharing the excitement for the season ahead. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a special day. We’re delighted to announce Astute Group as our new syndicate sponsor! From next week, you’ll see our horses proudly sporting the Astute logo, and we’re thrilled to begin this exciting new partnership. Founded by our syndicate member Geoff Hill, Astute supplies specialist electronic components and helps companies manage their technology supply chains. We'd also like to thank Morson Group for their support. We really appreciate everything they've done for the syndicate and wish them all the very best for the future. We've got nine horses in the syndicate this season and there's plenty to be excited about. Two of them have recently headed back to Dan Skelton's yard. Ink Black Heart was placed in both of his bumper starts for us last season and he'll now begin life over hurdles. He's always been a lovely big horse but he's really strengthened up over the summer and has come back looking stronger than ever (pictured below enjoying his holiday in the field). Rainbow Tara has also settled back in brilliantly and is schooling nicely ahead of her hurdling debut. It was encouraging to see her half brother win over fences at Worcester a couple of months ago and we're hopeful she'll have plenty to offer this season. We have a morning on the gallops organised at Dan's yard next week. They've made an unbelievable start to the season as they bid to break Martin Pipe's long standing record, so it'll be fascinating to see the horses at home and catch up with the team. Run Away Joe couldn't have been more unlucky. He was all set to make his seasonal debut at Newton Abbot in August and then, shortly after being declared, slipped in the yard after exercise. He suffered a minor fracture to his pelvis, which was incredibly frustrating for everyone. The good news is that everything has remained stable, he's back on the walker and will be scanned again in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed he'll soon be back in full work. King's Scholar had a well deserved break at home after a fantastic first season over hurdles. Two wins and a second from four starts is something to be very proud of. He's now back with Olly Murphy and is set to receive an entry in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle at Chepstow. We were delighted to see two of our horses featured in Paul Ferguson's Jumpers To Follow, which is well worth a read (link below). Saint Jeannais and A King of Magic both made the list and we hope they can reward that confidence this season. weatherbysshop.co.uk/products/paul-fergusons-jumpers-to-follow-2026-2027 Saint Jeannais was last seen winning comfortably on his hurdling debut at Bangor back in May before enjoying a well deserved break. His owners had a lovely morning at Nigel Twiston Davies' yard last week watching him on the gallops before a fantastic breakfast at The Hollow Bottom. He has a couple of entries at the end of the week, although we're keeping one eye on a bigger target later in the season. He's a horse we all think a great deal of. A King of Magic finished last season in great style, winning two of his four hurdle starts and earning a mark of 129. He's versatile when it comes to ground conditions, so there's every chance we'll see him back on the track sooner rather than later, possibly at Aintree on the 25th October. His owners are heading down to Ditcheat on Friday for a morning on the gallops and I'm sure they'll enjoy seeing him. Belle Le Grand has now retired from racing after things didn't quite work out over fences. She owes nobody a thing. She gave us some fantastic days with three wins over hurdles. We care just as much about what our horses do after racing as we do during their careers, so we're delighted she's been accepted for a trial at the British Racing School. Everything is going well so far and we'd love to see her helping train the jockeys of the future (Pictured left with her ears pricked on her first group lesson). Jack Hyde and Leloopa are both continuing their recoveries at home. They're making good progress and it'll be brilliant to have them back racing before too long.
Finally, we still have a couple of shares available in our latest recruit, Smokeandmirrors. He's a gorgeous unraced three year old with Fergal O'Brien and we think he has a really exciting future ahead of him. He worked well on a recent trip away. If you'd like to find out more, please don't hesitate to pick up the phone. We'd love to have you on board for what promises to be another exciting season. Paddy
